Many (many!) people experience symptoms of acid reflux. However, what most people don’t know is that it is very rarely due to an excess production of stomach acid. Most of the time, it is due to too little stomach acid production – a condition often referred to as hypoacidity. The fix then for most people is not medications to suppress or neutralize stomach acid; the solution is to address the reasons for the hypoacidity.

Probiotics are getting more and more press these days and they are good for just about everybody to take in order to obtain and maintain optimal health. Many people ask us, “How do I choose a good probiotic?”, and with good reason: the gastrointestinal (GI) tract contains more bacterial organisms (trillions) than there are cells in the entire human body.

Almost everyone struggles with getting a good night’s sleep at some time during their life, usually due to some kind of acute stress. However, for some people, getting good quality sleep is an issue almost every night; for those that experience this (or those that live with them) this is a very hard way to live.

There have been some amazing findings published in the last several years in regards to managing the symptoms and progression of Parkinson’s disease using natural methods. Most of these papers have been written or co-written by Marty Hinz, MD. What Dr. Hinz has shown is that it is possible in many cases to manage the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease while eliminating the potentially devastating side effects of the drugs used in the medical treatment of Parkinson’s disease using amino acid therapy. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that help relay information throughout the body. They transmit information through specialized nerve cells called neurons. How this works is that a signal is sent from the beginning of neuron (called the dendrite) to the other end (called the axon). At that point, information can be sent to other neurons via the release of neurotransmitters.

Anxiety and insomnia affect millions of people every day. Not surprisingly, stress is one of the main culprits responsible for our worry and lack of sleep. While we can’t control all the stressors in our lives, one of the keys to managing anxiety and insomnia is controlling and/or minimizing the impact that stress has on us. One of the easiest and most effective ways to do this is through deep breathing.

Increased urges to pull (hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, skin, etc.) are the tell-tale symptoms associated with trichotillomania. While there are many possible imbalances that can cause these urges, clinical research suggests that the most common underlying cause is neurotransmitter imbalance. The key for most people in beating trichotillomania is then finding their specific neurotransmitter imbalance(s) and correcting them. Read more…

Anybody that has experienced a migraine headache (and even those that have watched someone else experience one) knows how devastatingly painful they can be. During a migraine headache, blood vessels in the head go through a cycle of extreme constriction followed by rapid dilation. These blood vessels become inflamed due to imbalances in brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. There are many possible causes for neurotransmitter imbalance, but one of the most common is adrenal fatigue. Therefore, if we can address and relieve adrenal fatigue, we can often reduce the frequency and duration of migraines.

You know the scenario: it’s 2:30 AM and you’ve either just woken up or haven’t even fallen asleep yet. Your body is exhausted, but your mind keeps cycling on something that causes your insides to vibrate with a kind of anxiety that won’t allow you the rest you so desperately want. You look at the clock only to realize what you thought was an hour has only been 10 minutes and you realize that it’s going to be another long and sleepless night.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, about 30% of adults in the United States have symptoms of insomnia – that’s over 73 million people! While there are many common causes of insomnia, stress is one of the most prevalent. While this may seem obvious, what is really important is how you can reduce the impact that stress has on you so you get a good night’s sleep. Read more…

Rejuvenating neurotransmitter levels naturally is a multi-step process that involves avoiding neurotransmitter depletion and supplying the body the necessary building blocks through the targeted use of amino acid therapy. As a person progresses along the path to neurotransmitter optimization, several tests can be very useful to speed up and fine-tune the process. Click here for the full article.
