NeuroReplete is a formula that is often used in the course of amino acid therapy. NeuroReplete is a specialized formula that contains L-tyrosine and 5-HTP in a 10:1 ratio along with the cofactors necessary to convert those amino acids into the catecholamines (dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine) and serotonin, respectively. Everyone needs a unique combination of amino acids to achieve optimal neurotransmitter function, but NeuroReplete is a good place to start.
Occasionally someone will experience nausea as a side effect when they first begin taking NeuroReplete. This occurs in approximately 1-2% of people taking amino acids. The nausea gets worse and worse with subsequent doses and will often lead to discontinuation of the amino acids if not addressed properly.
The cause of the nausea is extreme neurotransmitter depletion. Therefore, the people that experience nausea upon initiation of NeuroReplete are the very people that need amino acid therapy the most. The nausea is an indication of need; it is also an indication that the body needs to adjust to the amino acids slowly over time.
Therefore, in order to eliminate this side effect, we simply discontinue taking the amino acids during the day and start with just one pill of NeuroReplete before bed. After several days of no nausea, we add another pill before bed and follow a similar procedure until we get the person back to their recommended dosing.
By following this procedure, most people that had previously experienced nausea as a side effect experience a whole new effect – relief from whatever symptom(s) their neurotransmitter dysfunction was causing them. And as with most things, that state is certainly worth the wait.
If I just received my products d5. Cyst replete and neuro replete and had horrible effects of nausea after my second dose of cyst replete is it all of them causing it or just the Nero replete. I took all of them all my doses. First day on them. I didn’t get nausea till I took my second dose of cyst replete I had already took my d5 and neuro replete in the morning.
Hi Rebecca,
That is a great question; the answer isn’t so straight forward, as the nausea could be due to a number of factors. Please contact your health care professional that recommended the products and they should be able to help you!
Good luck –
Dr. Chad
I am too, but if I take it with food it is way better the D5Mucuna makes me the most nauseous.
Hi Amy – it can certainly help to take the amino acids with food. However, if you are experiencing nausea while taking NeuroReplete and D5 Mucuna, it is likely due to an imbalance between the serotonin and catecholamine precursors. Please consult with your care provider to adjust your amino acid dosing to get the nausea under control.
Good luck!

My son (10) is on Haldol and Zoloft for TS, severe anxiety/depression, ODD…” Could I start him on a neuroReplete while he is on his medicine?
Hi Melissa – thanks for the comment; you’d need to speak and work with a health care provider trained in amino acid therapy for guidance (you can find one by contacting NeuroResearch: http://www.neurosupport.com), as I’d like to see a more complete health history to comment. In general, one can use amino acids at proper dosing levels along with most medications.
Good luck –

I have recently started taking this for anxiety/depression and I’ve noticed that I’m more moody and tired. Is that normal?
Hi Jewel – thanks for the comment/question. It generally takes 3-5 days for a person’s neurotransmitter levels to re-balance after a dosing change (assuming you haven’t changed/missed any doses), and is common to see changing symptoms during this time. If they are occurring after 7 days on a given dose, then you should work with your provider to run the appropriate testing to determine how to adjust your amino acid dosing.
Good luck!

How long does neuro replete take to work for deppression
Hi Shannon,
That’s a great question! If a starting dose does not provide relief within 7-10 days, it needs to be adjusted. Your provider will likely conduct specialized urine testing to help him/her make the appropriate changes. This process continues until the optimal dosing is determined.

Do amino acids help with muscle strength
Hi Virginia,
The branch chain amino acids, including leucine, isoleucine and valine, have been shown to help with muscle repair, which can help improve training leading to improvements in muscle strength and power generation. However, the products we are speaking of here do not serve this purpose; rather, the intended use of these products is to provide the body with the necessary building blocks to improve neurotransmitter function.
I hope this helps!
Sincerely,
Dr Chad
This is making me really tired is this normal?
Hi Sandra,
It is certainly possible to experience fatigue as you are working to rebalance your neurotransmitter function/levels. This is especially common if you’ve not slept well in the past. You should work with your health care provider to modify your dosing to help alleviate the fatigue (and get more rest/sleep!:)) –

Dr Chad
Can NeuroReplete cause insomnia?
Hi Sandra,
I’ve not seen a case where taking NeuroReplete has led to insomnia, however, it does provide building blocks for several of the neurotransmitters involved with sleep, so it is possible sleep disruption is possible if amino acid dosing and/or balance is not congruent with your body’s needs. I suggest you speak with your provider to help you adjust your dosing.
Good luck!
Sincerely,
Dr Chad
Hi my name is Tamara Epps and I take both neuroreplete and cysreplete.irs not the neuroreplete that cause nausea or upset stomach its the cysreplete because cysreplete have sulfur in it. The cysreplete also cause heart burn as well.
Hi Tamara,
Thanks for sharing your experience. We have also found that some people do not tolerate the CysReplete well, especially if they take it early in the day or without food.
Often times, taking the CysReplete later in the day, say at lunch, dinner and bedtime and taking the capsules with or after a meal will help.
In addition, letting the capsules sit in the mouth with water for ~10 seconds before swallowing will help getting the capsules down without incident.
If none of those things work, we will switch to a different sulfur compound like L-methionine that is usually better tolerated.
Thanks again for your insights – they are much appreciated –
Sincerely,
Dr Chad
