Everybody knows what acute inflammation feels like – you crack your knee against a chair or table leg and your feel pain, your knee starts to swell, get red, feel hot and gets hard to move. After a few days, this inflammation calms down and you get on with your life.
However, chronic inflammation is something different altogether. If your body is inflamed over a long period of time, your body chemistry changes and those changes can lead to all sorts of problems with your health.
In addition, research now shows that fat itself creates inflammation in the body; that fat is actually like an ‘organ of inflammation’. And as you’ll learn in the materials this week, it is imperative that we get this inflammation under control – not just to lose weight – but to fend off other diseases and disorders related to chronic inflammation.
