Check out HBO next week, May 14 and 15th, to see our hometown on “Weight of the Nation”. It is a 4-part documentary that will be feature on HBO and also for free on HBO.com.

The episode will follow families participating in the UW Hospital Pediatric Fitness Clinic, and it will also take a hard look at our school lunch program. For a city who talks a lot about locally sourced food and prides itself on beautiful farmers markets, we sure have a long way to go in that arena…

The documentary aims to serve as a much needed wake up call to an ever-expanding population. In the last 30 years, adult obesity rates have doubled and childhood obesity rates have tripled.

Jamie Oliver, an English chef and media personality, is promoting a Food Revolution Day on May 19th, just a few days after “Weight of the Nation” will air. Jamie says, “On May 19 thousands of people around the world will come together — businesses, schools, sports stars and celebrities — to hold events, dinners and cooking classes with the aim of putting good food back on the agenda. We want to change the way people eat by educating every child about food, giving families the skills to cook from scratch again and motivating people to stand up for their right to better food.”
