Rhubarb is here! These muffins are moist and delicious, spiced with warm cinnamon and tangy bits of rhubarb. And rhubarb is a vegetable! I love it when I can sneak vegetables into desserts. These would be great frosted if you wanted something more decadent. I made them mostly to serve as a quick breakfast or snack. Check out Elana’s Pantry for some great frosting recipes.

It is well-known that overweight and obese individuals have higher blood pressure than those who are normal weight. There are many reasons why obesity causes an increase in blood pressure, but now it looks as if some of the drugs designed to combat high blood pressure may actually be contributing to problems with weight. Recent studies have led professionals to believe that blood pressure drugs, specifically older versions of beta-blockers, decrease the body’s ability to burn calories and fat.

Hi everyone! In case you missed it, we held a cooking class last Monday night at Whole Foods. It was a blast; thanks to everyone who joined us! Unfortunately, we forgot to take pictures during the class, so you’ll just have to imagine how everything would look. The class featured mexican-inspired dishes, full of color and flavor and a great way to welcome summer in. And of course, we eliminated the most common food allergies!

This is a super easy recipe for a dairy-free salmon salad. I haven’t tried it but I’m sure it would also be great if you wanted to substitue tuna for the salmon. The dill and capers add a nice kick that sets this salad apart from traditional tuna salads. (more…)

It’s time. I need a detox. It’s time to spring clean the body – purge it of junk, toxins, chemicals and let the body get ready to work better. I’m also ready to get rid of belly bloat, slim down and prep the body to keep losing fat. Here is my 10 day journey. It’s not perfect according to plan – but it’s pretty darn close. I’ve done a test run on some of the recipes and have included a few of my own inventions, too.
