Everybody knows that calcium is necessary to build healthy bones. What most people don’t know is that bone health is very dependent on the type of calcium that is taken, and very few people take the right type of calcium.
Calcium Is Good For Your Bones – Right?
Most people, especially in the United States, have been sold a bill of goods that isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. We’ve been told for decades that calcium, especially from cow’s dairy products is good for our bones. The logic goes something like this: your bones are mainly made up of calcium, dairy products are high in calcium, so therefore (and here’s the stretch) that dairy products are good for your bones. It makes sense on paper, but it turns out to be completely wrong.
Research shows that those peoples that consume the most dairy products actually have the highest incidence of osteoporosis/osteopenia and the risk for hip fracture. It turns out that although dairy products do contain a lot of calcium, that calcium is bound to proteins that humans cannot easily break-down, and therefore, cannot use. In addition, those proteins need to be properly disposed of (they create residual acidifying by-products that must be neutralized in order to be excreted); this process requires calcium (and other buffering minerals) to be drawn from the body/bones, which increases the risk of bone disease and disorders.
Giving the Body the Bone Support it Needs
The truth is that many nutrients are necessary for healthy bones, including magnesium, phosphorus, silica, zinc, boron, strontium, copper and manganese. In addition, many non-minerals are also needed to produce health bone and improve bone mineral density, including such things as type I collagen, chondroitin sulfate, and biologically active growth factors (including IGF I/II, TGFB and Calcitonin).
While calcium and some of these other minerals can be obtained from food, we have only found one type of calcium that provides all of these nutrients – it’s organic microcrystalline hydroxyapatite complex (or organic MCHC for short). We have used a product called Cal Apatite Bone Builder Prime with great success. This has been the only product that we have seen not only stop the progression of osteoporosis and osteopenia, but actually reverse them.
