Are you trying to lose weight but aren’t seeing results? Listen up; the National Institutes of Health published it’s findings from the largest randomized controlled trial studying behavioral weight loss. And they have the recipe for success.
The study was composed of 2500 people, all of whom had type 2 diabetes. The participants were divided into 2 groups: a intensive lifestyle intervention (ILI) group and a diabetes support and education group (DSE). For one year, the DSE group attended a total of 3 informational meetings. The ILI group attended at least 3 group and individual meetings per month. The ILI group received individualized goals and support focusing on physical activity and dietary recommendations. After one year, the ILI group lost an average of 8.6% of total body weight. The DSE group lost only .7% of their total body weight.
The people who had individualized help with their weight loss plan lost significantly more weight than those who only received generalized information.
