Much of the nutritional information you will read says that a calorie is a calorie. I wish it were this simple, but unfortunately it isn’t. For example: late night calories are different than regular meal time calories.

Our bodies have normal sleep and wake cycles or rhythms, and we are meant to eat and be active during our wake cycle. When we eat late at night it can cause imbalances in various hormone levels, including hormones that control appetite and hunger. If your body is sending out inappropriate appetite and hunger signals it can become very difficult to lose weight or maintain a weight loss. Not only are you messing with your hormones, the foods typically chosen for late night snacks are not very nutritious and that alone can leave you packing on the pounds.

To break the late night snack habit check out these tips from MindBodyGreen.
