One of the top reasons people use for not exercising is lack of time. And yes, many of us are very busy, but that may not be an acceptable excuse any longer.
A small study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that just 30 minutes of high-intensity exercise per week can make a difference.
The study participants all had type 2 diabetes, their average age was 63 and they had a average BMI of 32, which is considered obese. For 2 weeks, the participants took part in an exercise regimen of 6 high-intensity workouts. They would work out at high-intensity for one minute, followed by one minute of rest, repeated until they’d completed 10 minutes of intense exercise. They also did a warm up and cool down for a total time of 25 minutes per work out.
The researchers found that blood sugar levels improved and metabolic health was increased.
The bottom line: If you can only fit in 10 minutes of exercise, do it! Your body will thank you. Every little bit adds up in the end.
